The Mission of Our Lady of the Light of Tancoyol was founded by Colonel José de Escandón and it is estimated that its possible author is Friar Juan Ramos de Lora, who lived there from 1761 to 1767.

This Mission was dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi and built between 1754 and 1762 by Fray Juan Crespi. It is considered the best preserved, with an ornamentation more subtle and complex than the others.
